I have never really relished the idea of cold weather running. But, this year has changed that.I’ve been out more lately than I have have during this time of year. There are aspects of my running that need an overhaul. So, 2012 is about change and improvement.During the last 2 weeks, two changes have taken place that would not have happened if I didn’t “dive” into running in January. These changes are adapting to colder weather and running non-stop for 4 and 5 mile runs. It’s not that I couldn’t run non-stop for these distances, it’s that I didn’t push myself hard enough to do it and yes, I admit that.I would do these distances by the “run/walk” method.Which most of the distance would be ran, but I would walk when I reached a hill. Not that wouldn’t try to run up the hill, but, some of it would be walked. In the same manor that I got tired of not running when it rains, I got tired of not “doing the distance”.It’s all about what you want and what you are willing to do to get it.Couch or the pavement, which is it going to be?Anyone can sit on the couch, whoo whoo it doesn’t take much effort to do that.
Basically, this being January, where does one want to be when Summer gets here? That is how I’m looking at it.Here are some suggestions:
1.Look at what faces you and deal with it.I.e:Cold weather – adapt to it
2.Set goals on what you want
3.Don’t be afraid to push yourself beyond what you normally do, (without hurting yourself that is)
4.Learn to be your own coach, drive yourself to success.
