colds

For almost 2 weeks, I’ve been battling what my doctor has told me is a viral infection and it started out as my being sick to my stomach during the first couple of hours and then just nausea and severe headaches for 3 days. Then 5 days after this started, I got a bad head cold with chest congestion and a soar throat. The thing is, I am one who rarely gets sick, but, when I do it’s bad. Well, I got it good (or bad which ever you want to put it). When I saw my doctor, he recommended that I use something called NaSa Flo Neti Pot I was skeptical at first and until after I used it the second time. I realized the difference it made with the bad coughing that I was having. In my case, I was congested and both with my sinuses and the chest. In the mornings, my sinuses were full and my head felt like it was going to explode. Since using the Netipot, I’m noticing a difference. I’ve been using a generic brand of Dayquil, Ibuprofen, cough medicine, vitamin C, and the Netipot to deal with the symptoms. It was hard to believe that something like this, so simple, would do a good job.

Sometimes the remedy for your situation is just right under your nose! Check out the website for more details. Never having used or heard of this product before, and since using it, I thought I’d mention it here since it has helped me.

In the last two posts, I’ve touched on how important nutrition is to the body and how fitness and nutrition can build a strong foundation for the immune system. If you don’t have a good immune system, then all your other efforts are a waste of time unless your immune system has been weakened for other reasons. I recently found an interesting article on the Immune System. Here is a brief excerpt on the article: You can read the full article – Diet, Stress and the Immune System This article is from the Cleveland Clinic website.

Under normal circumstances, the immune system is highly efficient, providing multiple defenses against the onslaught of outside invaders. These defenses include physical barriers (such as skin); the non-specific inflammatory response, which is brought about by changes in blood flow that bring chemical substances to the injured area; and specific immune responses, in which the body learns to recognize specific invaders and destroy them after subsequent exposures.

Ways to Boost your Immune System:

Two products (from Herbalife) called Roseguard and Best Defense, both of which provides immune system support. Roseguard aids in the defense of environmental toxins, and Best Defense helps boosts the immune system. Other ways to boost your immune system are:

1. Regular exercise
2. Get more Antioxidants
3. Adequate sleep, rest and/or relaxation
4. Be careful that you are not the problem – see below
5. Combat any developing ailments right away (cough, cold symptoms, soar throat etc)
6. Smile :)

Immune System negatives:

1. Lack of exercise
2. Overweight
3. Eating foods high in sugar
4. Eating foods high in fat
5. Experiencing lots of STRESS
6. Social Isolation – being lonely is not a good thing.

Remember, first, you should never starve yourself regardless of what your health and fitness goals are. Activity should also be increased to burn off those calories. With that said, it seems at times that it is forgotten that loosing weight (weight management) is only part of the puzzle. You don’t want to just loose the weight and get on with life. In a perfect world, that would be great.

The other side of the dish is the nutrition factor. You also want to focus on how good your nutrition is. You’ve heard it before, and there is something to be said that “You are what you eat”! Getting proper nutrition can be accomplished in a number of ways. Eating right and taking dietary supplements will help you along the way. There are those who feel that supplements don’t work and are a waste of money. That is not true! Just because one doesn’t always feel some sort of super change by taking supplements doesn’t mean they are not doing there job. It’s the consistent use of them that makes the difference. When I was selling Herbalife, my favorite supplement was their Total Control. This supplement helps build energy, promotes weight loss and boosts metabolism all at the same time. But, again, consistent usage of supplements are where the results come from.

So, by eating right, and taking supplements, you will start laying a foundation of good health which will develop and strengthen your immune system. Not to long ago, my wife was having a conversation with a friend and she said during the time we’ve been married, my husband has only been really sick twice. This is because, of my being active, and taking supplements and eating right.

As stated in other posts, you should also consider changing your habits. I don’t smoke, drink, or do anything else that would be detrimental to my health. I am an avid runner and I work out on a regular basis. Despite your interests, sometimes an overhaul of what you are doing could be the answer.
Who knows, you may end up meeting the new you some day like I did.

So, in concluding, never starve yourself, get active, eat right and take supplements and you’ll start finding yourself going down a better path to a whole new you.

In this day and age where health care costs are high and job loss is frequent, it’s easy to get caught up in the habit of putting your health on the shelf and worrying about it later. When I was in my early 20’s I purchased some health insurance since I was part time and had hardly any benefits. Well, with the cost of it, and the fact that it barely covered anything, I canceled it, thus, doing without it. And, yes, I was single at the time and it was easy to make those kind of decisions back then. There are some ways to cut costs to take care of yourself in the meantime (or all the time):
1. Purchase generic or store brand items that work just as effective and lowers cost.
2. Anti-bacterial hand soap to prevent the spread of germs
3. Always keep supplies on hand for that unexpected emergency
4. Nutrition – get proper nutrition to be properly fortified to fight off illnesses
5. Stay active – Regular exercise, running, walking etc.
6. Don’t smoke – Yes, this can have an effect on your health 
7. Hygiene – One rarely thinks of this, but, taking care of yourself here, helps too.
8. Avoid others – Stay away from those who are themselves not well or ill.
9. Already sick? – Deal with it as soon as you start not feeling well – by not prolonging it, you can cut costs before it gets worse.
10. Change habits – in addition to the above, changing your habits can lead to a healthier you.

If you are already doing all or most of these items, good for you! You are on your way. The more you can do on your own, the better off you’ll be. When able, you should see a doctor for annual checkups.

It’s amazing how making simple choices can lead to huge outcomes. If you start making changes now, in a while, those little changes will start a ball rolling that will make a big difference in your life. Nothing good happens over night and without effort. No one said that it had to cost much too! Let’s say that weight loss is your goal. Here are a few choices you could start with:

1. Control your portions: Start limiting your portions to a reasonable size and stop eating excessively.
2. Nutrition Labels: Pay attention to the Nutrition Labels on any food or drink items.
3. Vitamins: Get some, such as a multi-vitamin.
4. Exercise: You don’t have to belong to a gym for this one
5. Research: Get online and learn more!
This is a good starting point to get that ball rolling and your feet moving. After a while, you’ll begin to notice a new you. Be patient, it’l take some time, but you are worth it. Oh, don’t let age keep you from making changes. It was April of 1997 when I became a runner at age 34. Changing your life makes all the difference in the world. A year later, I gave up alcohol (beer) and haven’t looked back since. There were those who said I was crazy for not drinking beer anymore. Well, if they knew what I know now. I’m not complaining. By giving up beer, you also give up certain eating habits that go along with alcohol. I admit, that I completely removed beer and some other items from my life, but you don’t have to do as I did. You can try and limit those items to start with. Then later give them up as you want.
Start making small choices today, and tomorrow, you will start reaping the rewards of those simple choices.

Everyone has goals when it comes to weight loss or weight management. You may not realize it, but, no matter where you stand you’ll fit into any one of these goals / categories:

1. Just surfing / gaining knowledge / socializing
2. Searching for answers for a solution
3. Want to loose weight NOW
4. Want to stay fit and get proper nutrition
5. Need energy
6. Have some other health / weight related issue

One of the above categories most likely comes close to where you are. Unfortunately, a lot of people get stuck in search mode and never really do anything about what they are looking for, even when the answers are right in front of you on the screen you are looking at. Hence the saying “You can lead a horse to water, but, you can’t make it drink”.

Why do I use Herbalife products? First and to be short and simple “They work!” A lot of people argue that some of the products are expensive. Let me give you an analogy here.
We have many different landscaping companies in the area. One of them is quite more expensive than the others. Who is getting the most business? The one who is the most expensive! Why do you ask? As a customer of that landscaping company, I will tell you that it’s because of the quality of their product or work.

So, again, why do I use Herbalife Products? The first reason is of course, quality, but, here are more reasons why I use them:

1. I have had super severe sinus issues and since using Herbalifeline, those issues are GONE. This softgel is an anti-inflammatory which lead to helping my sinus / cardiovascular issues.

2. I’ve lost close to 20 pounds since this post and it’s due to a combination of using Formula 1 Meal Replacement Mix and exercise.

3. I have more energy due to a number of the products, such as Liftoff Energy Drink, Herbal Concentrate Tea and H30.

4. During the cold and flu season, I get sick far less often than I used to. This is thanks to better nutrition and using such products like Schizandra Plus, RoseOx.

These were just some of the reasons why I continue to use Herbalife products. If any of these sound good to you and you have the slightest interest, feel free to inquire anytime. Want to know more about Herbalife, check out the website. Contact me anytime for questions or to place an order.

There many reasons to delay, put off, make excuses on not to get started on any weight loss / get healthier effort. Some include motivation and support. If it’s in the back of your head that you have been considering doing something, but, you just keep putting it off, let me ask you one question – What if I said “No Purchase Necessary?” And, “Distance is no longer an excuse for not getting started!” For more information check out the Weight Loss Challenge Website. The only thing you have to loose is weight with good health to gain!

So, are you up to the challenge?

Ok, You’ve been reading, thinking and wondering. You want to do something and you know you should. What should you do? It’s time to get into a Weight Loss Challenge! Start putting demands on yourself now! Excuses are nothing more than the “why nots” in keeping you from doing what you know what you should be doing. So, instead of asking yourself why not, or why bother, you should be asking yourself, why should I?

If you have something or know of something that will work, putting it aside and not acting on it is the same thing as making an excuse for not taking advantage of it. Some would say as an excuse “well, I’m not much for powder drinks” or “I don’t like shakes”. These when it comes right down to it are nothing more than excuses to keep one from taking advantage of something that works. Ok, lets say that these are legitimate reasons for not using Herbalife, well, then instead of going with the reality that we preach that this is a change in lifestyle, then look at it from a diets perspective and only use the shakes until you loose the weight you want to loose. I’ll bet by then, one would be passed the issue of not liking the powder drink mixes. What’s more important, the RESULTS or the debate on whether or not one would like the product? Which are you going to let control your actions? If you are willing to put things off, then weight loss is not as important to you as you would want others to think.

The weight is not going to come off, until you are ready to dedicate and focus yourself to doing whatever it takes to loose the weight you want to loose despite whatever you would think of a particular product. Your current results are based upon you current willingness to take action.

For those of you who are overweight and reading this post, you would be amazed about how much better you’d feel by loosing some pounds. Less colds, allergies and an overall better personal feeling. Not to mention an improved immune system. So stop making excuses and take action today! What do you got to loose? Weight, Colds, Allergies??? Not a bad bunch of baggage to loose eh? It’s the neat thing about Cellular Nutrition that can have a positive effect on the immune system.

So, are you going to continue to make excuses?

My wife and I have been bouncing back and fourth with our weight loss efforts. This has been true up until near the end of December 2008. Something clicked this time or at least we appear to be more focused and determined then ever before. Our goals are similar but different but our determination is the same. As I mentioned, something has clicked this time. We seem to be having better success this time and we even seem to be enjoying our efforts. I’ve lost 8 pounds so far and my wife has lost somewhere around 12 pounds.

No, sorry, this picture is not me or anyone I know, but, just to show you what can motivate someone to get into action. According to a BMI that I did on myself recently, I’m considered overweight. At the time of this post I am at 180 pounds and loving it!

Until you have all of the following in order, you’ll not get far with your weight loss efforts:
1. Portion Control
2. Determination / will power
3. Focus

Now finally the benefits:

1. Speed – Though, you don’t have to be a runner like me to appreciate this one.
2. Better health – Feeling better, and perhaps avoid health problems
3. Save money – You could possibly avoid unforeseen medical bills and who knows what else.
4. Improved self image – We all look and feel better without all that extra baggage.

I could go on listing reasons why loosing weight is good for you, but, you get the picture.

In conclusion, I’m thinking of a mathematical equation to apply to this topic:

trail-runner

H = M – W (Health = Mass – Weight) Or if you are a runner,
S = M – W (Speed = Mass – Weight)

Have a great day!
