Fast FoodWith television, radio, Internet and other forms of media, we are all constantly inundated by many companies promoting their Fast Food as the best.

Some Fast Facts on Fast Food:

1. High fat and sodium content
2. Grease
3. Lower nutrition value
4. Increased chances of weight gain

Yes, it tastes good, and looks good, but, the truth of the matter, it’s not good. The body needs food to sustain itself. Besides the taste and how good it looks, the only good thing about Fast Food is that it’s fast and convenient. You are going down the highway on a trip and everyone is hungry. So you stop at the nearest Fast Food joint to satisfy everyone’s hunger. You pay the place, eat and then you are gone. But, also is the nutrition factor. There is only one way to say this, “Garbage in garbage out”. In 1992, my wife and I stopped at a local Fast Food restaurant because we were hungry. It was quite a few years since we even had any of this kind of food. Not more than 45 minutes after we were done eating, we both felt sick from the food. We both immediately realized why we were sick. It was the grease from the food. I challenge you to try something — Stop eating Fast Food for several months, then have some and see what you think. You should get the point. Oh, yes, everyone eats it, but, that doesn’t make it good for you. Here is a crude comparison — in the previous article, I mentioned that Soda was nothing more than “liquid candy”. Well, Fast Food could be described as “Candied Food”. Looks and tastes good, but not good for you. Candy tastes good, but is not good for you. It’s the same thing. We’re all putting stuff in us that isn’t doing anything for us. Isn’t it time to change the course and live better?….. You decide.

Each time you get a burger at a fast food place, you get a sandwich complemented with grease. When you make something with burger at home, you can run into grease. Burger is not alone here either. There is also chicken, fries, fried potatoes, ground turkey etc. Grease can come up just about anywhere. Yes, there are different varieties of this useful cooking item. Some are even more healthier than others. The only thing is, it is still just grease. So, how do you deal with this substance to make your meal healthier? Well, here are some suggestions:
1. Ground Beef or Ground Turkey: After you fry up your burger (getting it ready for a meal such as spaghetti), first drain the grease and then using a colander, rinse off the remaining grease thus making your ground beef or turkey virtually grease free before adding to the rest of your meal when preparing.
2. French Fries: Instead of deep frying, try baking your fries, they are just as good. You can get bags of fries making it easy for this.
3. Chicken: Bake the chicken with your favorite seasonings or use Shake N Bake.
4. Pork: Bake the pork using your favorite seasonings or use Shake N Bake.
There are many ways to get past the dreaded Grease word. Granted it is sometimes hard to get around. But with a little effort, your meals can be healthier. Imagine how much better off you’ll be by decreasing or eliminating Grease from your diet! This only paves the way to better nutrition.
