Remember, first, you should never starve yourself regardless of what your health and fitness goals are. Activity should also be increased to burn off those calories. With that said, it seems at times that it is forgotten that loosing weight (weight management) is only part of the puzzle. You don’t want to just loose the weight and get on with life. In a perfect world, that would be great.

The other side of the dish is the nutrition factor. You also want to focus on how good your nutrition is. You’ve heard it before, and there is something to be said that “You are what you eat”! Getting proper nutrition can be accomplished in a number of ways. Eating right and taking dietary supplements will help you along the way. There are those who feel that supplements don’t work and are a waste of money. That is not true! Just because one doesn’t always feel some sort of super change by taking supplements doesn’t mean they are not doing there job. It’s the consistent use of them that makes the difference. When I was selling Herbalife, my favorite supplement was their Total Control. This supplement helps build energy, promotes weight loss and boosts metabolism all at the same time. But, again, consistent usage of supplements are where the results come from.

So, by eating right, and taking supplements, you will start laying a foundation of good health which will develop and strengthen your immune system. Not to long ago, my wife was having a conversation with a friend and she said during the time we’ve been married, my husband has only been really sick twice. This is because, of my being active, and taking supplements and eating right.

As stated in other posts, you should also consider changing your habits. I don’t smoke, drink, or do anything else that would be detrimental to my health. I am an avid runner and I work out on a regular basis. Despite your interests, sometimes an overhaul of what you are doing could be the answer.
Who knows, you may end up meeting the new you some day like I did.

So, in concluding, never starve yourself, get active, eat right and take supplements and you’ll start finding yourself going down a better path to a whole new you.

Those in need, all want to loose weight, look and feel good about themselves. This reality is true for most people regardless of age. Unfortunately, there are those who go the route of starving themselves to accomplish their goals. The body needs food for a number of things, including weight loss. By starving yourself, eventually the body will start to re bell and you’ll eventually fail anyway. If you think you feel miserable now, think how you will feel by starving yourself. During my efforts, I never once attempted to starve myself and I achieved my goals. So the answer to the question in the title of this post is and always should be YES.

Yes, I understand and see that there are those who really want the weight off yesterday or even 2 months ago and just want the process over with. One has to stop and realize that it took a while to get the weight on. It will take a while to get it off. But, to stop the tide and keep the weight off, one has to change habits. Otherwise, the tide will not stop and you’ll end up being a boomerang and find yourself returning back to where you started from.

In a number of articles, I’ve stressed the importance of “Portion Control”. This is a key component in weight loss. You don’t starve yourself, you control your intake of food and drink to help with your goals. In addition, you also need to increase your activity to burn off those calories. These two factors offer a powerful combination that brings about weight loss. No one said it would be easy, but your commitment will determine your success.

Fast FoodWith television, radio, Internet and other forms of media, we are all constantly inundated by many companies promoting their Fast Food as the best.

Some Fast Facts on Fast Food:

1. High fat and sodium content
2. Grease
3. Lower nutrition value
4. Increased chances of weight gain

Yes, it tastes good, and looks good, but, the truth of the matter, it’s not good. The body needs food to sustain itself. Besides the taste and how good it looks, the only good thing about Fast Food is that it’s fast and convenient. You are going down the highway on a trip and everyone is hungry. So you stop at the nearest Fast Food joint to satisfy everyone’s hunger. You pay the place, eat and then you are gone. But, also is the nutrition factor. There is only one way to say this, “Garbage in garbage out”. In 1992, my wife and I stopped at a local Fast Food restaurant because we were hungry. It was quite a few years since we even had any of this kind of food. Not more than 45 minutes after we were done eating, we both felt sick from the food. We both immediately realized why we were sick. It was the grease from the food. I challenge you to try something — Stop eating Fast Food for several months, then have some and see what you think. You should get the point. Oh, yes, everyone eats it, but, that doesn’t make it good for you. Here is a crude comparison — in the previous article, I mentioned that Soda was nothing more than “liquid candy”. Well, Fast Food could be described as “Candied Food”. Looks and tastes good, but not good for you. Candy tastes good, but is not good for you. It’s the same thing. We’re all putting stuff in us that isn’t doing anything for us. Isn’t it time to change the course and live better?….. You decide.

Since I was really young, I loved soda. That great tasting liquid in a can or bottle. There was a time that I used to drink 2 cases of soda a week. That was when I was in my mid 20’s. I couldn’t get enough of it. For me “Coke Is It!” Yes, even today, I still drink it, but, seriously, no where near like I did back then. What we really need to realize is that soda is nothing more than “liquid candy”. Regardless if it is diet or calorie free, it’s still liquid candy and not meant to be healthy for you. Yes, we all have our favorite and the taste is great too! But, do we want to turn into our favorite soda? If you were drinking 2 cases of soda a week like I did way back when and if you kept that up or increased as you got older, where would your health be later on in life? All that sugar, and/or other additives being consumed day in and day out year after year.

Consuming soda each day is a way you take in lots of calories without even thinking about it. This can lead to weight gain and obesity, diabetes, dehydration, increased risk of Osteoporosis, dental issues and many more health related problems.

So, the next time you grab for your favorite soft drink, maybe you should consider how much of it you are drinking?

With everyone being so different in their needs and abilities, regardless if you are starting a weight loss effort, fitness regiment or some other health related effort, you should first consult your doctor before starting out. While most likely, nothing is wrong, you just never know what could be happening under the skin. The upside to seeing a doctor is that if there is a problem, it could be such that after it is dealt with, you’d be able to set fourth your desired efforts. Think of it this way, any issue discovered could be the starting point you need to be able to go forward. The bonus is, if there is nothing wrong, all the better then, and at least you know. To go a step further, having annual checkups helps keep you on track with your health. As you get older, annual checkups are more recommended. The body changes as you get older, so your needs could change too.

In addition to seeing a doctor, you need to also consider how committed you are. This is also important when choosing what health, fitness or nutrition aspect you are looking into. Your commitment level will add to your success level to achieve your goals. If you are not that committed or if you are only doing something just because someone else is, then you are not doing it for yourself. Therefore, you are failing before you even get started. So, in concluding, see a doctor and consider your commitment level before getting started.

So, rather than to try to sell you anything, we want to find and provide information that you need to get you motivated and moving in the direction that bests fits you. Articles are made available up to 5 times a week to provide as much information as possible. I will even take requests on any health and wellness / fitness topics. No replies will be made to requests, but, all will be looked into.

PortionsIt’s never to late to loose weight! That’s the first and for most secret of all. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what time of year it is. Now, even when the holidays are upon us, one wonders if any effort should be started at all. We all like the food that comes along during this time of year, so, who wants to do without right? The second thing to understand here is that regardless if you are just about to start loosing weight, or you’ve been making progress, just watch your portions. You don’t want to over indulge throughout the holidays or anytime, for your efforts could be curtailed. Think of it this way, slowly eating a little bit can be just as delicious as eating a ton of food. Besides, do you want to feel like a beached whale afterwords?

A third item to realize that eating a lot of food makes it harder for your body to digest it all. As well as if after you finish your first serving, if you wait 20 minutes, you’ll feel full and will likely not want to get anymore. You need to give your body a chance to catch up with what you’ve eaten.

Fourth, when making your delicious recipes, find out ways to substitute ingredients with other lower fat options such as using applesauce instead of butter. You may have to do some testing here. Check out Festive Food and Fun This Holiday Season.

Finally, you never have to give up the food you like as long as you remember to think “Portion Control”. I still eat what ever I want, I just don’t over indulge. It takes effort on your part to achieve your goals. There is no such thing as “auto pilot” when it comes to weight loss and fitness. Consider this, there is a good reason why cars don’t have auto pilot, you’d never get to your destination. You need to control the car to get somewhere. Same is true with YOU!

Support No matter where you are heading, whether it be weight loss or some other goal, at times it can be hard to go down the road alone. My wife found that by joining a group online (3fatchicks.com), she felt that she had someone to answer too, and she needed that. Sometimes, a group is all you need to get there. Sometimes, you need to get with a group to find your answers. Going it alone can be impossible at times. Finding others online who share or have similar issues makes it nice and shows that you are not alone in your quest. Even here at AboveNBeyond4u.com, there is a new forum available. General discussions and/or a fitness section. Best of all it’s FREE!

By sharing with others, you may find an idea that someone else is doing that may just work for you and solve a current problem. It may even make things easier for you along the way. There are a wealth of communities and forums available on the Internet. All my wife did was to do a google search to find what she wanted and was underway in no time.

A bad attitude can come from just about any situation or outcome. Illness, crisis, depression, accident, death, you name it, all these things and more can bring about a bad attitude. This attitude can be short term, or last for years. The problem is that the thought process can be altered to the point where the individual makes decisions that he or she wouldn’t have made otherwise. These decisions can be very minor or major depending on the individual or situation. Some decisions can effect the person’s health.

A good example is:

A person who is mentally ill and is living in denial, refuses to take their medication.
This decision that the person is making not only effects their future, but also affects the immediate family and loved ones. The health of the mentally ill person ends up being drastically different than it would be if the right decisions would have been made.

—-

Now, it would seem from the example above that one would not have to have a bad attitude to be in denial. But, wouldn’t denial be a form of a bad attitude? A bad attitude about a given reality, and not willing to accept what is happening to them.

Mental illness is only one example and is certainly not the only one that can bring about bad decisions that can have effects on ones health. Think of it this way, if you are happy and have high esteem, you are more likely to make better decisions than if it were the other way around, hence a bad or poor attitude.

Just a thought:

If you are reading this post, and someone’s been trying to tell you that you need to seek help, it’s only because they really do care. Perhaps, maybe, you should look at that as an array of sunlight breaking through the dark black clouds into your life. What would it hurt to consider it anyway?
